Larga Vista Ranch

From Dream to Reality

Farmer Doug from Larga Vista Ranch tells us that planting shelter belts on his farm used to be “just a dream.”

“Being a  fourth generation farmer, everything I do is to preserve this farm and make it viable for the next generation.”

Larga Vista Ranch is a dairy based in Pueblo, CO which also raises pigs and grows vegetables such as sweet corn, peppers, tomatoes, and melons. Their Restore grant involved the planting of a trees as well as a windbreak/shelterbelt which will draw carbon and nutrients deeper into the soil, improve water retention and infiltration, improve livestock performance while decreasing feed costs, better utilize irrigation water, and provide much needed wildlife habitat.

”When I first heard about the Restore Grant the idea of planting shelter belts was just a dream. After 50 plus years of farming I realized that I had not planted enough trees during my lifetime. Now I can, thank you!”
